The Meralco Power Spikers suffered yet another loss in the 2015 PSL Grand Prix, this time at the hands of the league leading Cignal HD Spikers 25-17, 25-18, 25-17, Saturday afternoon at the Cuneta Astrodome.
The Power Spikers had no answers for the HD Spikers’ proficient import Ariel Usher as she unleashed 24 points banked on 22 kills to lead Cignal to its third straight victory.
It was all Cignal from the opening serve, dominating on all fronts as Usher had plenty of help from fellow reinforcement Amanda Anderson and locals Fritz Joy Gallenero, Cherry Vivas, and Michelle Laborte.
The Power Spikers had a semblance of a fightback in the third set when they trimmed the 20-10 Cignal lead to just four, 21-17, behind the efforts of Cha Cruz and Liis Kullerkann. However, there was no stopping Usher as she finished off what she started, raining down the telling kills including the match winning point.
“Yung nakita kong dumating ang mga imports namin during our training, ang sabi ko these are good imports,” said Cignal coach Sammy Acaylar.
“Lagi ko lang sinasabi sa team ko na hindi naman kami dapat laging nagri-rely sa imports so dapat umangat ng umangat yung mga locals namin,” he added.
Kullerkann and Cruz led the Power Spikers with 11 markers apiece as they dropped to their fourth straight loss.
Anderson added 11 points for Cignal while locals Gallenero, Vivas and Laborte combined for 25 points.
