On Friday, the Meralco Bolts will start its campaign in the 2017 Commissioner’s Cup against the Mahindra Floodbusters. The game is the first opportunity to see import Alex Stepheson in action in the PBA, with the big man proclaiming he’s prepared to take on the challenge of being the team’s inside powerhouse.
“I just want to get every rebound. That’s my main goal, just get every rebound, win every game and be a monster inside,” he said.
Though minor adjustments are still being made, the 6-foot-10 Los Angeles native, assured that in their upcoming games, a monster will be unleashed.
“I think we have a lot of good guards and forwards. I just want to add some scoring inside, some rebounds, some toughness inside near the basket. I just want to try to be an inside leader and a defensive leader for the team,” said Stepheson as he shared what he feels he will bring to the table.
“I just want our team to win, whatever it takes. I want to get every rebound. I want to block every shot. I want to dunk everything and make all my shots inside. I just want to be a monster inside and hopefully that helps our team win,” he added.
Last Commissioner’s Cup import, Arinze Onuaku, led the team to the semi-finals and now, Stepheson has set his eyes on bringing the team to a podium finish.
“I’ll do everything I can to get ourselves to the finals. Last Commissioner’s Cup they did great making it to the semis and it’s going to be a challenge to get there. But we have a good team and we can do it again.”
Stepheson and the Bolts will face Mahindra Floodbuster on Friday, 4:15pm at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
