“The team plays hard every game. But we always fall short. Fortunately we managed to pull it off and complete the victory.”
Those were the words of Meralco head coach Ramil de Jesus after the Power Spikers’ straight sets victory over the RC Cola Air Force, Saturday, at the San Juan Arena.
The Philippine Superliga Grand Prix campaign has been difficult for the Power Spikers. Despite pushing the opposition to the absolute limit on several occasions, the team remained winless after eight outings. Hopes of progressing to the next round are long gone, but there remains a serious intention to end the journey in the best possible manner.
Right from the get-go, Meralco put the pressure on RC Cola, with imports Liis Lullerkann and Christina Alessi clicking early on. The duo would go on to combine for 27 points in the 25-21, 28-26, 25-21 victory.
Mika Reyes provided a consistent source of points as well, leading the local charge with nine points after the game. Cha Cruz and Kim Fajardo had eight each, while Mary Joy Baron chipped in with five.
“I’m glad that we will not finish the conference without a win,” said a relieved de Jesus.
The Meralco Power Spikers next face Cignal HD on Monday, for their final game in the Philippine Superliga Grand Prix.
